How can you safely remove nail polish from leather?

I have a black leather coat that has a few nice size spots of pink nail polish on it. Im scared to use nailpolish remover or anything like that. Im sure Id end up with a worse mess. I appreciate your help!How can you safely remove nail polish from leather?
Never tried this so I'm not sure if it works, but it may be worth a try...

Carefully scrape excess with a dull knife or spatula. Mix a solution of mild soap in lukewarm water. Swish to create a great volume of suds. Apply only the foam with a sponge, but avoid spreading the stain. Dry with a clean cloth. If the polish has hardened, try gently rubbing an artgum eraser across it. As a last resort, cautiously file the area with an emery board or a piece of very fine (grade 6/0-8/0) sandpaper. I would try first heating the area with a hair dryer. Be careful not to overheat the leather, it can blister or burn. Cover the periphery of the stain with scotch tape. Start with half and half mixture of nail polish remover and paint thinner. Using a Q-tip and carefully rub the stain. Add more heat or paint thinner as necessary. Start the spot that is least noticeable.
